DISTRIBUTION OF BONES
There will be two types of bones in adults:
- AXIAL SKELETON (80 BONES)
- APPENDICULAR SKELETON (126 BONES)
In Axial skeleton - There will be 80 bones. It includes skull bones(29), vertebral column(26), Rib cage(25).
In Appendicular skeleton - There will be 126 bones. It includes Upper limb (64 bones), Lower limb (62 bones).
Firstly we will discuss about Axial skeleton 🦴
1. Skull - cranium(8) + face(14) + Ear ossicles(6) + neck bone(1)
- Cranium - 1 frontal bone + 2 parietal bone + 1 occipital bone + 2 temporal bone + 1 sphenoid bone + 1 ethmoid bone.
- Face - 2 nasal + 2 maxilla + 2 zygomatic + 1 mandible + 2 inferior nasal concha + 1 vomer + 2 lacrimal + 2 Palatine bones.
- Ear ossicles - 2 malleus + 2 incus + 2 stapes
- Neck bone - 1 hyoid bone.
3. Rib cage - 12 pair ribs ( Totally 12 x 2 =24 bones) + Sternum bone (1).
Secondly, We will discuss about Appendicular skeleton🦴
1. Upper limb - Pectoral girdle (4) - 2 clavicle + 2 scapula
Arm (brachium) = 2 Humerus
Forearm ( antebrachium) = 2 radius + 2 ulna
Hand (Manus) = 16 carpels + 10 meta carpels + 28 phalanges.
2. Lower limb - Pelvic girdle ( 2 Hip bones)
Thigh = 2 femur
Knee = 2 patella
Leg = 2 tibia + 2 fibula
Foot = 14 Tarsals + 10 metacarpels + 28 phalanges.
Appendicular skeletons are taken in account of both left and right side together. So, totally there are 206 bones in human adults.
In future, distribution of muscles, nerves, arterial and venous supply will be uploaded in region wise manner. 😇
